Beginning at 2:00 PM each weekday and Saturdays, planned recreation is offered. The event and location is posted in the Information Stations and published in the Daily Newsletter. While these opportunities have a coordinator present, it is strongly suggested that children under 8-years old be accompanied by their favorite adult. Most activities are planned for families or teams. Observers and cheering sections are always appreciated!
The Recreational Field is located at the far end of Grand River Drive. This large open area allows for a game of Kickball, soccer or softball. There is also a volleyball and basketball court at this location. This is a perfect place for friends and family to gather for some physical fun!
The Game Room is open weekdays from 2:00-4:00 PM. This great game zone is located on the second floor of the cafeteria, and contains table games, pool, ping pong, Foos ball and puzzles. The space is airconditioned but is not handicapped assessable. Please remember that kids under 8 years old are asked to bring their favorite adult.
The Pavilion, located within the camping area on Outer Drive, will host crafts on selected days. It is an outdoor space with restrooms available.
The Play Area is adjacent to the Pavilion in the camping area and is a great place to schedule a play date or just sit and visit while the kiddos have a great time.
The grounds feature walking trails, and fishing, and is a great place to run or ride a bicycle.
Camp owned canoes are available, first come-first serve, at the Boat Launch area. They may be used every day except Thursday from 2-4 PM when they are reserved for the Youth, and during worship services, and quiet time.
To keep our walkers, runners and bicyclists safe, the speed limit throughout the camp is 10 MPH.
A play area was established in the camping area near the Hart-Topliff Pavilion (608 Outer Dr.) in the camping area. This child’s play equipment is available for all children to use, supervised by a parent or guardian.
A fun addition to activities available this year are our Octa-Ball Courts. One is located in the camping area adjacent to the Hart-Topliff Pavilion (608 Outer Dr.). A second Octa-Ball pit is located adjacent to the Youth Dorms (1700 Epworth Dr.) for our youth to use during recreation and free times. If you have never played before, it is a BLAST! Anyone of any age can join in any game. The rules of the game are as follows:
Octaball (“Ga-Ga” Ball)
Ga-Ga Ball is a game of honor. Players are responsible for officiating themselves and playing with honesty, integrity, and respect. It is believed that the game’s roots originated in Israel. The word “Ga” means “Hit”, so Ga-Ga means Hit-Hit.
Game Play Rules:
1. All players start with one hand touching a wall of the pit.
2. The game begins with a player throwing the ball into the center of the pit.
3. When the ball enters the pit, the players all scream “Ga” for the first two bounces, and “Go” after the third bounce (Ga-Ga-Go), after which the ball is in action.
4. Once the ball is in play, any player can hit the ball with an open or closed hand. Players may not carry, throw, or kick the ball – it must be punched with an open hand fist.
5. If a ball touches a player below the knee (even if a player hits himself/herself), he or she is out, and leaves the pit. If a player is hit above the knees, the player continues.
6. Any time the ball goes out of the pit, the last person that the ball touched is out. Using the walls of the octagon to aid in jumping is legal as long as the player does not permanently sit on the ledge of the octagon.
7. Players cannot hold the ball.
8. Once the player hits the ball, he or she must wait until the ball touches someone else before hitting it again (no double-touches).
9. The last player standing is the winner of the round.
Game Variations:
Game variations need to be decided prior to the game beginning. Players can add variations to the game – such as using more than one ball, playing in teams, expanding the hit area to be above the knee, catching the ball eliminates the player who hit it, and any other variation the participants can come up with. Another variation is to play rotation instead of elimination. This is done by allowing a certain number of players in the pit, and forming a line for the rest that want to play. Then, as one person gets out, the next person in line goes into the game.
Holley Memorial
Museum & Hospitality House
For many years, the Board of Directors of Eaton Rapids Camp Meeting had dreamed of having a place on the camp grounds, that could serve as a museum honoring our 125+ year history, a library, with a collection of quality Christian Books, and a hospitality house, where individuals visiting the grounds for the day can relax.
In 2010, the Association was given ownership of the former DeYoung Cottage, located at 709 N. Tabernacle Dr. The Board has designated this cottage to fulfill those purposes. Further, in honor of Larry Holley, his dedication to the camp, and his love of history, the Museum/Hospitality House was officially named The Holley Memorial Cottage.
The exterior of this cottage has been refurbished with vinyl siding and a steel roof, and the cottage has been appropriately furnished. Whether you are dropping by to peruse the antiques and collectibles, to sit a spell and lose yourself in a book, or to enjoy some refreshment and relax until the next service or activity, we welcome you to stop by.
The hours of operation are posted just outside. We would like to invite you to stop by Holley Memorial Cottage throughout camp. You are always welcome here!
The Game Room, located on the second floor of the Cafeteria, is open each day from 2-4 PM. This play zone provides a variety of games for all ages, and is a great place for families to spend some quality time together. Pool, Ping Pong, Foosball and Air Hockey are available on a first come first serve bases. Additionally, the shelves are well stocked with a variety of board games, card games and puzzles. Friday the Game Room will transform into- COMPETITION CENTRAL- with Ping Pong, Euchre, and Uno Tournaments. When open, this room is supervised, but it is strongly suggested that children under the age of 8 be accompanied by their favorite adult.
The Play Area is located adjacent to the Hart-Toplif Pavilion on Outer Drive, and features swings, a climbing structure, and playhouse for younger children. Older children will enjoy the Octa-Ball, and game courts, which allows for a variety of games, including basketball. Several benches in the shade, and restrooms close by, make the Play Area a great destination for kids and parents/grandparents to gather for fun and relaxation.
